Old Habits Die Hard
We develop habits at an early age because of inexperience. We reinforce those habits day by day and step by step in our daily life.Old habits allow us to get in to bad habits sometimes socially and sometimes unintentionally.
Perhaps we fear change and we are scared of alternatives to speculate as long as we get what we savour and delight in.
Good habits
We develop good habits in our childhood like namaz, book reading, honestly, truthfulness, respect elders and hardworking.
Bad habits
Lying, steeling, smoking, misbehaving are the habits which are not acceptable in any society or culture.
Nail Biting
One of the bad habit that people in general have is nail biting. If I say that i am not one of them,I would be lying.I found myself in that bad habit. I bite my nail in nervousness and frustration. My fingers look extremely bad and that day i decided to break this habit.I bought nail colors and promise myself to grow them and paint them.
Unhealthy Breakfast
Well if I share my morning routine with you then it starts with white bread instead of roti that is again unhealthy and bad habit too.But its nt easy to change. It has become my addiction and any change to my breakfast routine will invoke displeasure.
Shaking legs, drinking too much soda drinks, smoking, backbiting, leg pulling and eating fast food all are bad habits.
Smoking
Intellectually,we know that quitting smoking is good for our health and can save us from cancer. Limiting burger means to lose weight. But rooting habit changes in specific and personal reasons like giving up smoking for good may mean spending more years with your family or eating healthy food may give you more energy for outdoor adventures.
Being up late at Night
Another bad habit is staying up late at night.According to www.health.com the average person needs 7-9hours sleep per night and I rarely sleep as much is required. We spend time on watching movies and TV shows. We are an owl,up all the night. We spend plenty of time on mobile playing games. However we can not sleep like owl the whole day,we get up at 6:30am.Its not good for body and mind.We don't feel fresh and drags ourself whole day.
In conclusion, I hv both good and bad habits.I need to change bad ones in order to live a happy and healthy life.
Bad habits keep us stuck. We know that they are bad but we keep doing them. The longer we engage in that habit the harder it is to get rid of bad habit. For example if we have a bad spending habit then we ll put ourself in debts.Bad habits appear to be small but they impact all our life.
Poor Lifestyle
Another bad habit which is very common is poor life style.According to WHO(World Health Organisation)60% of factors affecting individual health and quality of life are closely related to the lifestyle of an individual. Million of people lead unhealthy lifestyle and encounter illness, disability and high death rate.
Not Exercising
Most people think that a lack of exercise just means an increase in weight.Thats unfortunately not true.Wight gain is one effect but the effects of lack of exercise can result in high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome, heart disease, diabetes and many other health issues.
In a nutshell, I ll say that habits are stored in our subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind has a collection of beliefs, values, ideas and habits and we can refer to as a paradigm. We hv paradigm for everything like how to behave, how to exhibit table manners and how to present ourself infront of guests.Because our conscious mind is very busy so it relies heavily on these paradigms, when we attempt to change them our mind rebels. Our subconscious mind does not want to change because our habits have been in place for a long time.Thatswhy so many people attempt to change their habits but fail.
It doesn't mean they lack will power or desire to change them but its mind that will naturally default to our existing habits. In order to change them we must use certain techniques and mechanisms to break bad habits.
As the saying goes a journey of thousand miles began with a single step. This is the maxium that should guide your battle again bad habits.you should start with the technique of breaking one bad habit at a time.
A single step might seem too small to make an impact but its a start of long and important change for the rest of your life.
Very elaborate description about the genesis of bad habits and what harm they can do. The language used is very descriptive, lucid and pleasure to read. Well done Mona Faisal ji. 👍
