Women Education

Pakistan has patriarchal society and outdated traditions.Girls are not encouraged to get education.32% of primary school age girls are out of school.By grade six 59% girls don't attend school.Although girls gave legal right to acquire education but practically there are obstacles standing in their way.

Literacy Rate

Female literacy rate stands around 47% which is very low.

Challenges

  1. Poverty
  2. Location
  3. Perception
  4. Early marriage
  5. Taliban
  6. Lack of investment
  7. Poor quality of education
  8. Social norms
Poverty is the biggest barrier in women studying.Cost of education in public school is still out of rang for many.So girls are employed as domestic workers in homes so they might earn some money.Parents don't afford to get them uniform and books.

Distance of school from home matters alot. Poor people does nt have transportation. So it becomes impossible for them to send girls to join school.

School is perceived to impart western style of education.Thatswhy they send them to madresss which is informal religious school and free of cost.Madresss is not equipped with latest scientific knowledge.

Early marriage is very common in third world countries. In pakistan 21% of girls got married before reaching their 18 birthday and 3% begore the age 15.

Taliban have been dominant in KPK.They are against women education. They stopped girls from going to school. They destroyed building and put posters on school about women if they attend class they ll be punished. They haress them and terrorise them.

The most devastating attack on education in recent years in Pakistan was the December 2014 attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar city, where militants killed 145 people, almost all of them children.

Government insufficiently spends on education.Pakistan spends far less on education than is recommended by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).Due to ill funding school infrastructure is falling apart and and often teachers are unqualified.

Quality of education is very alarming in public school.Teachers are lacking in latest teaching techniques as there is no proper workshop arranged for them .On the other hand private school are good and provide quality education in conducive and competitive environment.

Some families don't believe that girls should get education because they have to join their husband after marriage where as boys have to remain with their parents and they financially supports them so they prefer boys to girls education.

Role of women in society

Women play magical role in society by earning wages and supporting family.
By contributing in service sector they ensure country's progress, prosperity and development.

Even in rural areas women take part in agriculture sector. They join their man agriculture production.
Women as qualified mother takes decisions regarding family meal and diet.
Rural women supports her family by working in homes as maids. They ensure food and security.

World Bank Country Director for Pakistan said:

"Every additional year of schooling for a girl increases her future earing by up to 10%".
